France head coach Didier Deschamps has opened up on the real reason behind Kylian Mbappe’s absence from the Nations League 2024 squad.
As Nations released their squad lists ahead of Euros 2024, many were surprised when Real Madrid star, Kylian Mbappe’s name was omitted from the list, as while the striker was declared as unfit, he was still seen in Madrid’s games against Lille and Villarreal.
His presence in these games came as a surprise to many, as why would someone who was ruled out as unfit still appear in games prior to the international games.
This led to speculations that Real Madrid were influencing the decisions made by international coaches and Mbappe being criticised for avoiding the international games.
France’s Head coach, Didier Deschamps in a recent interview insisted that it was entirely his decision to leave Mbappe out of the squad ahead of the clash against Israel.
He had said: “Mbappe was not fit against Villarreal. There was no request. The decision is mine. He played the Villarreal game without being 100 per cent fit.”
Kylian Mbappe has continued to struggle with match fitness following the knock he picked up before his last two fixtures for Real Madrid before the international break.
