Under new ownership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea has changed its approach by focusing on signing young and promising talents rather than ready-made players. Marc Guiu is the latest addition to Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 football season.
The news of Marc Guiu’s signing was confirmed by Chelsea via its official website on Monday, July 1, 2024. The Blues revealed that the Spaniard international signed a five-year deal with the London-based club, with an option to extend by an extra year.
Why did Guiu join Chelsea?
In his first interview reported on the club’s official website, Marc Guiu expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, saying,
“It’s an immense joy to sign for Chelsea. I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited. Ever since I was young, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea, and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”

How much did Marc Guiu cost Chelsea?
Chelsea paid £6 million to Barcelona, which was the amount stipulated as his release clause.
Guiu, an 18-year-old product of Barcelona’s academy, was given a taste of senior football last summer when he featured for the Catalans in a pre-season fixture against Vissel Kobe. He got his first-team football in a competitive game in October 2023 when he was named as a substitute in a La Liga game against Granada before being handed his debut against Athletic Club.
