Chelsea Football Club have assigned the number 19 jersey to Jadon Sancho who was its final signing of the 2024 summer transfer window.
The Blues confirmed the news on its official website just a few hours after the English midfielder was announced as the latest player to join the Blues. Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on a loan deal which will keep him at the club until the 2025 summer transfer window with an obligation to buy him for a fee of around £25 million.
The jersey number was initially assigned to fellow summer signing Pedro Neto following his switch from Wolves last month, and he made his debut against Manchester City in that shirt. However, Neto soon changed to seven which was stripped off of Raheem Sterling, who has since joined Arsenal on loan, so the 19 was left vacant again.
Neto took the jersey number 19 off of another player Chelsea deemed surplus to requirements, with Armando Broja also losing his number before heading out on loan to Everton.
Players who have worn the jersey include Diego Costa, Demba Ba, Paulo Ferreira, Lassana Diarra, Mason Mount and Scott Parker. Jadon Sancho will not be eligible to make his Chelsea debut against Crystal Palace on Sunday but could feature in their trip to Bournemouth on the other side of the September international break.
