The English Premier League have released an official statement on its website confirming the reason why Arsenal’s midfielder, Declan Rice was issued a red card in the game against Brighton.
The body released the statement via its official social media accounts some minutes after the final whistle of the match at the Emirates Stadium.
Declan Rice was issued a yellow card in the first half after a tough challenge on Joel Veltman. However, in the second half, he tangled again with Veltman and was then shown a second yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh which led to a Red card.
This decision left most Arsenal fans shocked as they felt tha Veltman be punished after appearing to kick Rice. However, replays did go on to show Rice nudging the ball away.
The statement read thus,
“#ARSBHA – 48’. The referee issued a second yellow card to Declan Rice for delaying the restart.”
Ten minutes after Declan Rice’s red card, Brighton equalised through its forward player, Joao Pedro, who followed up to tap in after Yakuba Minteh’s effort was saved by Gunners keeper David Raya. The result saw Arsenal’s 100 percent run in the Premier League come to an end but they still have their unbeaten record intact going into the first international break of the season.
